March/April 2018 Race Update

Updated: Mar 1, 2020

March Easter Weekend was a busy one.

Kielder Dark Skies 14 – 24th March

We had 12 ladies and one of the senior men heading to Kielder for this popular Night Run taking along equipment and head torches to necessary to complete the challenge.

Well done to Jennifer, the 24th female finisher and 7th in W40 age category in sub 2h 30. Jen was followed closely by Gemma, Elaine R (also 7th in her age category), Joanne, Bernie and Deborah all sub 3 hours then Tracy, Lyn, Emma, Nicola, Ali and Shereen all sub 3h 30. Great performances!

Paul Young was our only Blaydon Men’s Senior, finishing in 11th position overall and an outstanding 1st in the M50 category. Well done Paul !!!!

Prudhoe Easter Egg Run 5K – 24th March

Five Blaydon harriers ran in this local event. Mark Gubbins our only lad, finished in 9th position in 22:57. Four lasses also ran, Kat Nicholson, Amanda Haley, Jayne Cuskern and Mandy Robinson.

Temple Park 5K – 25th March

Well done James Ramshaw, Tom Rutherford, Phil Jobson and Nicola Alderson. James finished in 16th place (18:29) and Tom in 19th place (18:49)

South Park 20 – 26th March

Andrew Alderson and Lee Pattison competed in this 20 miler both finishing in the top 50. Andrew finished 7th in 2:06 and Lee a very respectable 47th in 2:36. Fantastic running lads!

Thirsk 10 Miler – 8th April

Again, we had two bees out for this event. Michael Friberg finishing in 1:04 and Kat Nicholson in 1:33.

Blyth 10K – 8th April

Nine Blaydon lads and two lasses ran in this very popular Blyth event. Well done to Matty, Alex, Peter, Enda, Daniel, Philip, Alan, Stuart, Michael, Jayne and Sharon. The vets stole the show at this event with Alan finishing 2nd in the V60 age category and Michael Henderson also 2nd in the V70 age category. Fantastic!

Manchester Marathon – 8th April

Ten of our senior ladies travelled to Manchester, some competing for the second year in a row. Well done Clare Bowley who led the ladies home in a brilliant 4:27. This was Clare’s first marathon so a fantastic achievement. Elaine Rudman also finished in 4:27 with a new PB, knocking 2 mins off her Chester time from October. She also completed Manchester last year and was 18mins faster this year in comparison. A very impressive improvement. Well done also to Tracy and Gemma, and especially to Jen, Kirsteen, Michelle and Jayne who ran their first marathon. Unfortunately we had a wounded bee, Vicky Holliday who had to pull out due to a nasty injury and Bernie also ending her race around the half way point to help Vicky. That’s what friends are for

Berlin Half Marathon – 8th April

Joanne and James Ramshaw, and Gav Burn, travelled to Germany for the popular Berlin Half Marathon. Well done to all 3 and especially Joanne, who finished her first half marathon in a fantastic time of 1:43.

Cragside 10K – 14th April

Well done Nicola Perry, Lee Harrison and Shereen Douglas who completed the Run Northumberland Cragside 10K. Nicola led Blaydon home finishing in 57:32 and was 15th in her age category.

Also a mention to Jen who was the only runner representing Blaydon in the Hartlepool Marina 5 miler yesterday.

Well done everyone, I’m sure results and PBs will be coming in thick and fast now spring seems to have sprung! Here’s a few random photos I’ve found thanks to our snap happy runners from the events above.
