JOIN THE COMMITTEE
Blaydon Harrier and Athletics Club runs on the energy and commitment of volunteers. From training sessions and competitions, to communications and club development, everything we do is made possible by people who give their time and skills to support the club.
If you’ve read our Join the Team page and are thinking about getting more involved, this guide is a great place to start. It gives you a flavour of some of the more involved roles available, whether you're ready to take on a leadership position or just want to explore how you could help out.
These roles often come with a bigger time commitment and may include joining the committee, though not all do. Even where committee membership isn’t required, volunteers in these roles are expected to work closely with the committee, sharing updates, collaborating on plans, and helping ensure the club runs smoothly.
WHAT DOES THE COMMITTEE DO?
The committee is the team that helps steer the club forward. It’s made up of volunteers who take on specific roles, like Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and others, to make sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. From planning events and managing finances to supporting members and keeping things safe, the committee helps make sure the club is the best it can be.
Blaydon Harriers is also a registered charity, which means our committee members are trustees. That might sound formal, but it simply means they help make sure the club is well-managed and stays true to its purpose: encouraging people in our community to get involved in athletics and enjoy being active.
We can have up to 15 committee members, and they’re elected each year at our Annual General Meeting (AGM). If someone steps down during the year, we can co-opt a new member to join the team until the next AGM. It’s a flexible and supportive group, and we’re always keen to welcome new faces.
COMMITTEE VACANCIES
The Blaydon Harrier and Athletic Club AGM will be held on Monday 29 September 2025 at 6:30pm at Blaydon Youth and Community Centre. We currently have one vacancy on the committee, and will have other vacancies opening up from the AGM. If you're interested in joining the committee, please get in touch.
The time commitments listed below are only a guide. All of our volunteers lead busy lives and have other responsibilities, so how much time you give is entirely up to you. Check out the full role outlines on the right for more information about a role, but please bear in mind that they describe an 'ideal world' scenario and don't be put off if it sounds like a lot! Every bit of help makes a difference, and we’re here to support each other.
