English Schools Stars Cecilia and Will

Our two junior male and female athletes of the year, Will Collinson and Cecilia Reid, competed for their respective counties, Northumberland and Durham, at The English Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday, at Temple Newsam, Leeds. Both battled through the earlier rounds to make the final eight. Cecilia's under par performance at last week's inter-counties, was we now know, the onset of a flu type virus. It continued through the week, so bad that she couldn’t attend school for a few days, nevertheless, she wasn’t prepared to give up her hard fought for English Schools place and battled to 171st out of 341 of the best athletes in the country, and helped her Durham team to 8th place. A fully fit and virus free Cecilia Reid would surely been much further up the field. Will on the other hand had a fantastic day, finishing in 30th place out of 343, he was second Northumberland home and seemed to enjoy the hilly and muddy conditions. Northumberland finished in 11th place.
