Blaydon Race Volunteers Needed

With the Blaydon Race on Tuesday 9 June 2026 fast approaching, we are making a final call for volunteers to help us safely and successfully deliver this historic and much‑loved event.

Despite fantastic support so far, we are still short of the volunteer numbers required on race night, and without enough helpers in place, we cannot host the race safely.

Why volunteering for the Blaydon Race matters

The Blaydon Race is not just a flagship event for the local running community – it is also vital to Blaydon Harriers and the causes we support. Income from the race helps fund:

  • Weekly track sessions

  • New and replacement club equipment

  • Volunteer education and training

In addition, the race raises much‑needed funds for our partner charities, Red Sky Foundation and Smile Through Sport, supporting their incredible work within the community.

How you can help

We are asking:

  • Club members – if you are running the race, please consider asking a friend or family member to volunteer in your place

  • Non‑runners and supporters – if you can spare a couple of hours on the evening, your help would be hugely appreciated

  • Wider community – you do not need to be a runner or club member to help; local support is what makes this event possible

Volunteer roles range from marshalling and stewarding to supporting the start and finish area. All roles are clearly briefed and supported on the night.

When is help needed?

  • Race day support: approximately 4.30pm to 10.00pm

  • Set‑up help: we also need assistance earlier in the day to help prepare for the evening

Every volunteer, whether for one hour or several, makes a real difference.

Registering to volunteer

To help ease the pressure on the race team and keep communication simple, all volunteers must complete a short online form:

Once signed up, you’ll receive full details of your role and timings ahead of race day.

Thank you

The Blaydon Race has been part of the North East’s identity for over 40 years, and it simply wouldn’t be possible without volunteers. Your time, energy and support help ensure the event can continue – not just this year, but for many years to come.

Thank you in advance for supporting Blaydon Harriers and the Blaydon Race.
