The summer racing season continued in style on 10 July 2025, as a number of Blaydon Harriers took on the Sunderland 5K at Silksworth Sports Complex. Known for its fast course and strong competition, this event regularly attracts athletes from across the region and once again, it didn’t disappoint.
With a flat, two-lap route starting and finishing on the track, the race offers a great opportunity to chase down a personal best. And that’s exactly what several of our runners did, taking full advantage of the conditions and supportive crowd to put in some fantastic performances.
The evening kicked off with a junior 2 mile race, the senior women and veteran men (M50+) followed at 6.45pm, with the senior and M35–49 men setting off at 7.20pm.
Blaydon was well represented across all categories, with runners giving it their all from start to finish. Whether aiming for a time or simply enjoying the buzz of a summer race, everyone did the club proud.
It was especially great to see teammates cheering each other on around the course and at the finish, proving once again that our club spirit is just as strong as our running legs!
A huge well done to everyone who took part, and thank you to Sunderland Harriers for putting on another brilliant event. The organisation, atmosphere and support on the night were excellent.
