Sunday 15 June 2025 marked a special milestone at the 70th Durham Schools Track and Field Championships for Tony Livingstone, one of the region’s most respected and long-serving athletics officials.

It was Tony’s final outing as a track referee, bringing to a close an extraordinary officiating career that has seen him support athletics from grassroots to international level. A Grade 4 track judge, Tony has travelled the length and breadth of the country, bringing knowledge, fairness and calm authority to every event he’s been part of.

Blaydon Harriers have been fortunate to have Tony support many of our junior and senior track meetings over the years. His dedication, professionalism and love for the sport have made a lasting impression on everyone he’s worked with.

John Macphail, who has worked closely with Tony over many years, shared this heartfelt tribute:

“In my opinion, he’s the best in the North of England, and he’ll be greatly missed.”

The good news is that while Tony is stepping back from refereeing, he’s not stepping away from the sport altogether, he continues to coach throws, sharing his expertise and passion with the next generation of athletes.

From all of us at Blaydon Harriers, thank you, Tony, for everything you’ve given to athletics. Your contribution has been truly exceptional, and we look forward to seeing you trackside in a different role for years to come.
