From 8–19 October 2025, the stunning island of Madeira welcomed athletes from across Europe for the European Masters Athletics Championships. This prestigious event celebrates the dedication and talent of masters athletes, and this year, Blaydon Harriers were proud to have one of our own competing on the international stage.

Our incredible W70 athlete, Doreen Craig, delivered a series of outstanding performances that showcased her speed, consistency, and determination. Doreen became a European Champion as part of the 4x100m relay team, storming to gold in a time of 65.02 seconds. She also added a silver medal in the 4x400m relay, finishing in 6:22.39.

Doreen didn’t stop there. In her individual events, she placed 4th in the 100m (17.35), 7th in the 200m (36.86), and 6th in the 400m (87.33). These results are a testament to her hard work and dedication, proving that age is no barrier to achieving excellence on the track.

It was a fantastic championship for the North East Masters team as a whole, with athletes bringing home an incredible 35 medals: 12 gold, 13 silver, and 10 bronze. This success highlights the strength of masters athletics in our region and the commitment of athletes who continue to inspire.

Congratulations, Doreen! Your achievements in Madeira have made Blaydon Harriers proud and shown what can be accomplished with passion and perseverance. We can’t wait to see what you do next!
