Members gathered by the river on 25 June for another fantastic Club 5K Handicap Time Trial, and while the racing was hotly contested, the weather may have been even hotter!
With temperatures soaring and the sun blazing throughout the evening, everyone showed great determination and resilience to complete the course. Despite the conditions, there were plenty of smiles, strong performances and plenty of encouragement from start to finish.
A huge thank you goes to Emma Dunn, Olivia Fawcus and the Champion family, whose support helped keep everyone safe and looked after out on the course. Events like these simply couldn't happen without the volunteers who give up their time to help.
As always, special thanks must also go to the Richards family, whose now-legendary post-race refreshments were once again a huge hit. Watermelon and cake proved to be the perfect reward after a warm evening's running and are rapidly becoming one of the club's favourite traditions!
There were some outstanding performances across the field. On her debut appearance in a club 5K, P Burn ran superbly to claim first place, a fantastic achievement and a wonderful way to begin her Blaydon Harriers journey.
The evening also saw some impressive times recorded at the sharp end of the field, with Kevin Findlay taking the honour of Fastest Male in 17:08, while Letha Whitham was Fastest Female in 21:01.
Most importantly, it was another evening that showcased the fantastic spirit of the club, with members supporting one another, celebrating achievements and enjoying a great summer night's running together.
Well done to everyone who took part, we look forward to doing it all again in two months' time.
