Quayside 3k and 1k, 23 April 2025

The Newcastle-Gateshead Quayside was buzzing with excitement on Wednesday 23 April 2025 as young runners took to the streets for the Junior Quayside 3k and 1k races. With perfect conditions along the scenic riverside route, it was a brilliant evening of racing, smiles and plenty of personal bests!

The action kicked off with the under-11s tackling a fast and fun 1k race, before the older juniors lined up for the 3k event. The flat, out-and-back course alongside the River Tyne – passing landmarks like the Tyne Bridge and the Millennium Bridge – proved perfect for quick times and exciting sprint finishes.

It was fantastic to see so many Blaydon juniors giving it their all, and even better to hear about all the PBs and medals earned on the night 🥇🥈🥉. A special mention goes to James Cathey and Jamie Lonergan, who both finished on the podium at the North East Counties Junior 3k Championships – a brilliant achievement against strong competition.

The atmosphere throughout the evening was electric, with families, friends and clubmates cheering on every runner. Events like these show just how much young talent there is in the North East running community – and how much fun can be had racing on a spring evening!

A huge well done to everyone who took part, and thank you to the organisers, volunteers and supporters who made the event so special. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for all these young stars!
