Cross Country Pre-season Checklist
For runners:
✅ Dig out your club vest and clean off your spikes (check they still fit!)
✅ Keep an eye out for the events being added to Spond and click to attend
✅ Stop avoiding hills and start actively seeking them out!
✅ Pack warm layers, snacks and a big smile
Cross country spikes are a great option for most races, especially if the course is muddy or slippery, they give you extra grip and confidence. That said, trail or fell shoes work well too, especially on firmer ground or if you’re more comfortable in them. If you’re unsure, ask around, there’s always someone happy to share advice!
Once you’ve registered your attendance on Spond, our team managers will take care of entering you into the races, and the club covers the entry fees, so there’s no cost to you. Teams are made up based on age groups and gender, and points are scored by the top finishers in each category. Every runner counts – even if you’re not scoring, you could be helping push other clubs further down the rankings. It’s all about teamwork!
For volunteers:
✅ Fancy helping with the tent setup or packing it away? We’d love your help!
✅ Could you bring a flask of tea or some biscuits to share?
✅ Cheer on our runners – your support makes a huge difference!
✅ Let us know if you’re available to help through our quick online form or chat to a coach or committee member
Cross country is more than just a race, it’s a chance to build team spirit, challenge yourself, and enjoy the great outdoors with your clubmates. Every cheer, every cuppa, and every muddy shoe helps make the day special.
So whether you’re running, volunteering, or just coming along to support, we can’t wait to see you there!
