Blaydon Harrier Family Track Night, 28 August 2025

On Thursday 28 August 2025, we swapped our usual training sessions for something a little different, the Blaydon Harrier Family Track Night. It was a lively, fun-filled evening that brought together athletes and their families to celebrate what the club is all about: getting people involved in athletics and encouraging healthy activity in a friendly, welcoming way. It was a relaxed and friendly evening, that captured the spirit of community participation.

The track was buzzing from start to finish. Races for our junior and induction groups kicked things off, followed by two senior mile events and a brilliant parents’ race that had everyone laughing and cheering. It was fantastic to see so many families taking part, whether they were running, supporting from the side lines, or just enjoying the evening together.

Everyone was treated to free pizza and ice cream, which added to the festival feel. The food vans were a huge hit and helped make the night feel extra special. A big thank you goes to Two J's Pizza, who worked tirelessly to feed around 150 hungry athletes and family members, and to Tony's Ices, who served up the most fantastic Blaydon Harrier ice cream cones.

We’re also grateful to Del Stevyn, who captured the spirit of the evening beautifully through photos and video, and to GLL and Blaydon Leisure Centre, whose support was key to making the event happen.

Behind the scenes, the night came together thanks to the incredible efforts of our volunteers. From early planning and logistics to working with GLL, coordinating vendors, and making sure everything ran smoothly and safely, their hard work made all the difference. Their commitment and teamwork showed exactly what Blaydon Harriers stands for, and the event was a brilliant example of what can happen when a community pulls together.

It was a night to remember, we are so lucky to be part of such a supportive and close-knit club community.
